Background
The centre for sub Saharan Transport Leadership was birthed out of the industry desire to train the next generation of transport leaders in Africa with industry relevant skills in management, Leadership and Transport knowledge, able to communicate policy and complex decision into pragmatic and systematic actions for the development of infrastructure and services. As the premier Centre of Excellence, the Transport Sector Development Project (TSLDP) identified the needs under the Research for community Access Partnership (ReCAP). The Kwame Nkrumah University of science and technology, Kumasi, Ghana was selected following a competitive evaluation and selection process. The UK funded High Volume Transport (HVT), also provided some support towards the development of the curriculum for a Master of Science in transport Leadership.
The Centre is also the convenor of specialised professional short courses for industry across Africa. It also conducts applied leadership, policy evaluation, applied research in asset management etc. To be hosted by KNUST with the support of the University of Cape Town, South Africa, The University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, Mott McDonald consulting Engineers, UK and other partners across Africa. The CSSTL was hosted as part of the African Centre of Excellence Regional Transport Research and Education centre Kumasi (TRECK), KNUST.
